The concept:

Il Kirimatian is the name of the group ranch. The group ranch has been granted financial support a by the European Union, to develop an alternative to ranching in the form of eco-tourism. This is via a wildlife sanctuary and a twenty-bedded tourist camp. The project is being co-ordinated by The African Conservation Centre in conjunction with a group ranch committee, an investor and the EU. The area is very marginal, hot, dry and the residents of the are in the main, living below the poverty line. The Masai, traditionally pastoralists - have followed in the footsteps of their ancestors, but due to many factors this activity at the level found here is damaging to such a fragile environment, and this option will hopefully help the land and the residents in dealing with some of these problems and hopefully in uplifting their standards of living. Sampu Camp tents are 'en suite' with swimming pool, electricity and a range of activities for the visitor including:

*game drives in our private sanctuary including sightings of elephant, wilderbeeste, giraffe, eland, kongoni, impala, grants, monitor lizard, did dik and many more varieties of game; many varieties of birds, insects, reptiles and of course many different trees and bushes.

*walking both on the group ranch, surrounds and in the Nguruman Mountains - the opportunities for walkers is endless.

*spend time with a habituated troop of baboons.

*visit a herd of masai owned cattle and hear the herdsmen stories, music and experiences as keepers of cattle.

*cycle to ones hearts content with the wind in your hair and the sun on your back.

*these programmes will involve the residents in guiding and allow the visitor to meet them and interact.

*we hope that we will evolve a system of offering an authentic cultural experience for our visitors including music, homestead experience, cattle husbandry of course the chance to accompany our Masai guides on their tours.

Alternatives:

In keeping with oft requested activities, Sampu will offer great walks ending with breakfasts, cocktails or dinners. We will have a honeymoon, presidential style suite offering a different dιcor to the other accommodations, and privacy. Sampu would be delighted to host conferences set in a very quiet and undisturbed atmosphere. With a swimming pool, an exercise area with a treadmill and a stationary exercise bike, running with your short or longer distance running guide participants or just ride a bicycle for awhile makes for a fun exercise situation.
